About Accept Crypto Guide

Why we started

Accept Crypto Guide began in 2021 when our founders—a payments consultant and a small-business accountant—kept meeting merchants who had been told to "just add Bitcoin" and were left to figure out the rest alone. The advice they found online was either promotional or too technical to act on. We started writing the guide we wished they had: plain explanations of wallet setup, processor fees, refunds, and bookkeeping, tested on real point-of-sale systems.

What we do

We publish step-by-step guides, fee comparisons, and checklists for businesses that want to accept cryptocurrency without overpaying or running into compliance surprises. Every guide is reviewed by someone who has configured the tools it describes. We do not sell payment processing, and we do not accept affiliate fees from processors for placement in our comparisons.

How we work

  • Test before we publish. We open merchant accounts with the processors we cover, run test transactions, and record the actual settlement times and fees. When a fee changes, we update the guide and note the date.
  • Show the trade-offs. Crypto payments are not free money. We document chargeback gaps, volatility exposure, and the accounting work involved, alongside the potential benefits.
  • Correct in public. When we get something wrong, we fix the article and add a correction note at the bottom rather than quietly editing it.

Who we are

Our team of five includes two former merchant-services reps, a CPA who specializes in small-business bookkeeping, and two technical writers who handle wallet and processor testing. We are based in Austin, Texas, and we work with a network of independent merchants who let us observe their setups and share what we learn.

How we make money

We fund the site through paid workshops for merchant groups and a subscription newsletter for accountants. We do not take payment from exchanges or processors to rank them. If we ever add sponsored content, it will be labeled as such and kept out of our comparison tables.

What we won't do

We won't tell you crypto payments are right for every business. For many merchants with thin margins and high chargeback risk, the costs outweigh the benefits. Our job is to give you enough detail to make that call yourself.
